As one of the best video game engines out there, Epic’s Unreal is being utilized in the development of many AAA titles. Games that are currently being made in Unreal Engine 5 include Redfall, Layers of Fears, as well as the new Witcher and Tomb Raider entries. The software is also being used by the fan base for their own projects, be it their own remake of an already existing property or a concept for something they want to see be developed one day.

The YouTube channel Enfant Terrible has a habit of imagining yet-to-exist games, or even ones that are out, in interesting ways. Using the latest version of Unreal Engine, a new video shows what a hypothetical Part 3 of The Last of Us could look like. As with the two official games, it has a certain gloom to it, but also looks pretty fantastic. It uses dialogue from the second title to great effect, and while it doesn’t provide much in the way of a potential story arc, it certainly whets the appetite of those who thoroughly enjoy Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic franchise.
As mentioned, Enfant Terrible is known for putting out videos of this nature. Just recently, they showed what Silent Hills/P.T. could look like in Unreal Engine 5. As interesting as the concept is, this one is probably more of a sore point for fans. At least with The Least of Us Part 3 video, there’s a possibility that the game could manifest one day. However, when it comes to Kojima/del Toro’s Silent Hill project, that will never come to fruition, so gamers have to make do with fan concepts.
As one of the most celebrated post-apocalyptic games ever made, The Last of Us seemed to go from strength to strength after the sequel came out. There’s also the remake, which hit the PS5 storefront not long ago. Whether a Part 3 will ever emerge can only be speculated about at this stage, but maybe the developer has ideas on where it would like the story to go next.
