Reddit user Uncooked_wonton posted a clip of their Fallout 4 adventure in which they’re running around Sanctuary Hills, one of the early locations players come across after emerging from Vault 111. Sanctuary Hills is one of the early settlements that Fallout 4 players can customize as well, but this player is interrupted by a Glowing Radroach before they’re able to open the Workshop menu. Just prior to reaching the house that’s featured in Fallout 4’s intro before the player is sent to Vault 111, the player turns around to see a glowing radroach that’s a mere few feet away and is ready to attack.

Beyond some radiation damage already incurred at +1 damage per second, Uncooked_wonton’s health pool is fairly full as they turn around to face the nearby radroach that’s been in pursuit since before the Fallout 4 player returned to Sanctuary Hills. Uncooked_wonton’s quickly initiates VATS while the Glowing Radroach lunges for its first attack, and they target the head with four melee attacks to maximize their damage. The Radroach’s first hit almost kills the Fallout 4 player, who takes multiple stabs at the enemy with a knife, crippling it and causing the creature to stumble backwards with their second hit.

While Sanctuary HIlls typically has several NPCs that can help with such confrontations and some Fallout 4 settlements have defense systems, Uncooked_wonton is forced to fend off the Glowing Radroach on their own. After a brief combat cutscene that shows the Radroach on its back after the player unleashes their stored critical attack, Uncooked_wonton flanks the large bug to take two more manual stabs at its back that kill it. The Fallout 4 player takes a Stimpak to recover from their wounds after the intense fight prior to pausing for a moment to rest after the onslaught.

The Fallout 4 fan is notably in very minimal gear beyond their Vault 111 Jumpsuit and small knife which may suggest that the player doesn’t have much equipment as they didn’t swap to anything else with their Pip-Boy to make the intense fight easier. Because Fallout 4 is still giving the player early game tips in Uncooked_wonton’s video, this glowing radroach may have been their first challenging encounter in their playthrough. A lot of Sanctuary Hills remains unchanged despite being the first area most Fallout 4 players experiment with customization in, and it’s visibly quite barren in Uncooked_wonton’s clip which also points to the save being fresh.

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
